Sad fact: You can't own a big shaggy bear. But just as you can adopt a long-haired cat that looks like a lion, you can get yourself a dog that looks like a bear. Plenty of dog breeds bear an uncanny resemblance to bears (please excuse the pun), almost guaranteeing their status as social media stars. And, as an added bonus, there's no chance of these dogs eating your family.

Bear-like dog breeds are not just smarter than your average bear — they're also way cuter. From Chow Chows to Keeshonds, these giant dog breeds may look intimidating, but they're really just big old teddy bears. You should keep in mind that these aren't the type of dogs that don't shed, so you'll want to invest in a good vacuum for pet hair. But the sweet faces of these eight dogs that look like bears are totally worth the extra vacuuming — you'll just have to grin and bear it. (Last bear joke, we swear!)

Chow Chow

The dignified Chow Chow is best known for the mane-like ruff of fur around its head and shoulders, according to the American Kennel Club. Between that and its small rounded ears, the Chow Chow looks just like a little bear (though, as it stands as high as 20 inches at the shoulder, this dog certainly isn't small).

Samoyed

According to Dog Time, the Samoyed was originally bred to haul sledges and herd reindeer, so it's no wonder that this good-natured, energetic dog looks more like a bear than a dog. But there's no reason to fear this big breed — the Samoyed is also known for being a wonderful and devoted family pet.

The Eurasier may only be a mid-sized dog, but with its wedge-shaped head, triangular ears, and thick double coat, this dog still looks just like a teddy bear. According to Vet Street, the breed is a cross between a Wolf Spitz, a Chow Chow, and a Samoyed, resulting in a big ball of fluff that will do anything for its family.

Caucasian Shepherd

Loyal and brave, the Caucasian Shepherd wants nothing more than to care for flocks and protect its family. Seeing as this breed is known as the Russian Bear Dog, according to Dog Time, it's no surprise that this breed is just as well known for its massive size as its protective nature.

Known as a herder dog, the Bouvier Des Flandres is recognized for its a rough, shaggy outer coat and notably massive head, according to Hill's Pet. But this pup doesn't just specialize in cattle herding — its calm and docile nature makes this breed a great fit for families, even those with small children.

As a medium-sized spitz breed, the Keeshond shares many of the same characteristics as the Samoyed with its fox-like face, pointed ears, and big fluffy coat. You'd also be crazy not to be charmed by the breed's unique shadings and markings around its eyes, which, according to the American Kennel Club, look like a pair of spectacles.

The Newfoundland is truly a gentle giant of a dog, though this big, strong breed was originally bred to pull nets and haul wood, according to Dog Time. Despite its massive size (this dog usually averages around 100 pounds), this breed is just as well known for its sweet nature.
